VERI-GROLD
Verified Software Initiative - Groningen and Oldenburg
Motivation
Our increasing dependence on digital technologies stresses the need for reliable and trustworthy software. Research groups in Groningen and Oldenburg have considerable expertise on software verification, the branch of Computer Science that studies rigorous techniques for ensuring that software always works as intended. Although these groups share overlapping interests, currently they do not collaborate. Given their scientific and geographical proximity, this is a missed opportunity. As an initial step to bridge this gap, we have organized two scientific workshops, one in each city.
Involved Groups
Groningen
Fundamental Computing (Prof. Jorge Pérez)
Part of the Bernoulli Institute (Faculty of Science and Engineering, FSE), the group aims to contribute to the understanding of the logical and mathematical foundations of computing science and to realize a two-way transfer between this fundamental research and more applied sub-disciplines of computing science.
Oldenburg
Formal Methods (Prof. Heike Wehrheim)
The group develops mathematically precise methods for the modelling and analysis of hardware and software systems. Special focus is laid on the verification of parallel systems.
Foundations and Applications of Systems of Cyber-Physical Systems (Prof. Martin Fränzle)
Cyber-physical systems integrate computational processes into physical environments. The group investigates rigorous methods for the modeling, verification, and synthesis of reliable cyber-physical systems in a two-way transfer between academia and industry.
Theory of Correct Systems (Prof. Christoph Matheja)
The group’s mission is to apply rigorous mathematics to develop methods and tools that contribute to increasing confidence in the correctness and trustworthiness of software systems.
